What I Wore : Crown and Glory Style Roundup

DSCN2206Today I wanted to do a roundup of the four outfits I've put together this month that featured Crown and Glory's Lotta Rosie Headband in Ocean. I wanted to work with Crown and Glory while I was in Europe, but it was a bit complicated so it ended up happening this summer -- which has been absolutely perfect. Sophie was kind enough to send me this headband, all the way across the Atlantic Ocean, and let me style it. The first way I did that was with the above outfit, which I wore to TEMPER's launch event here in Austin. Screen Shot 2014-07-08 at 9.42.26 AMI then wore the headband with my Fourth of July outfit, to add the requisite blue into my quasi-patriotic outfit. This is also one of the only times I've worn the headband with my hair in a braid, and I loved it!

The next week I wore my headband with a vintage dress and oversized cardigan, channeling a fairy from the ocean while I took care of things around the house. I love how this headband can elevate even the comfiest of outfits into something a little bit more.

And last but not least, I wore my headband when I went to go and see the live performance of Welcome to Night Vale with my dad. I was photographed in the line while waiting (with permission, of course) and I am 150% sure it is because I was wearing this piece from Crown and Glory! I've tried to hunt down the photo, but no luck so far.

Thank you so much Sophie for allowing me to be as creative as possible with one of your amazing headbands! It's been such a blast, and I can't wait to pair it with my scarves and sweaters when the weather gets cooler!

Last week my dad and I went to go and see the live performance of Welcome to Night Vale, one of my all-time favorite podcasts. I knew that I wanted to dress colorfully + work in my Crown and Glory headband, so I pulled this outfit together. I realized after I got there that I should have worn purple, or at least donned purple lipstick, but now I know for next time! I still had a wonderful time being all dressed up, and the sweater truly came in handy two times : when we were inside the Paramount where it is very chilly, and when it was pouring rain after the performance was over.

Today I'm taking a comfortable + casual approach to my outfit while still being able to transition it into a nice outfit that I can wear to work this afternoon. This vintage dress I picked up at a pay-by-the-kilo thrift shop in Paris pairs perfectly with the oversized cardigan I got at the Anniversary Sale at Nordstrom last week -- merging comfort with style. I decided to accessorize simply with my Crown and Glory headband and my all-faithful watch. To channel my inner fairy as best I can, I'm forgoing shoes until I have to go to work or leave the house for any reason.

I've never been the most patriotic American (unless you count being head over heels in love with Captain America), and especially not since I spent four months in Europe. But there's something about the Fourth of July that gets me, that makes me want to embrace all of the quintessential American things.....except for drinking beer. I had to work hard to find things in my wardrobe that were like red, white, and blue and ended up with pink, white, and blue. I feel like Steve Rogers would approve of the thought, don't you?

I had a pretty low-key Fourth with my parents -- we hung out all day and then went out to a local park to play Forbidden Island, eat a yummy picnic, watch fireworks + Despicable Me 2 afterwards. We had true Texas iced tea (so sugary!), saw skydivers, and had a really amazing time.

I'd love to hear what you did on the Fourth -- even if you're not in America! What did you do with your Friday? Let me know in the comments.

For TEMPER's launch event last Friday, I wanted to be dressed up but still comfortable. I decided to FINALLY wear this amazing dress I got while I was in Seattle last summer and pair it with my new black flats, a cross body bag that I found in my mom's collection, and my new flower crown from Crown and Glory (which makes me feel like an ocean fairy every time I put it on!) Although I've had this dress for about a year, I haven't worn it except to the art show because of the mesh cut out in the front -- not really good for everyday wear. It was perfect for the event though, and I am so happy I was able to bring it out to play.

Because the dress and the flower crown are so dramatic, I wanted to keep my makeup incredibly minimal. I used MAC's Prep + Prime BB Cream on my face, brow gel to keep my brows looking polished, Covergirl's new Bombshell mascara to make my eyelashes huuuge, and my favorite red lipstick for a clean + classic look.
