A Weekend of Glitter, Inspiration, and Tough Love (or, When The Blogcademy Came to Austin)

When I'd first heard about The Blogcademy, my first thought was "I have togo!" but there weren't any dates in Texas at the time and I couldn't afford to fly anywhere, so I accepted the fact that I'd be reading recaps and living vicariously through those. A few months later, I was going through Gala's blog and saw that there was a date in Austin and knew I was going no matter what. It took a bit of convincing for my parents to let me spend that chunk of money, but I can safely say it is one of the best investments I've ever made.

For those of you who don't know what The Blogcademy is, it is a two-day workshop for blogging that is taught by Gala Darling, Shauna Haider, and Kat Willaims -- but it's not the boring basics, as in how to open an account with Wordpress or install a theme onto your blog. The Blogcademy gets into the nitty gritty of branding, content, and loving what you do. The Headmistresses are completely honest and don't try to sugarcoat what it means to be a full-time blogger, giving it straight so the Blogcadettes can see exactly how much hard work goes into it. The days are broken up between Gala, Shauna, and Kat teaching and various in-class activities, where the three Headmistresses will walk around and talk to the Blogcadettes, giving advice, answering questions, and being a sound board for ideas. It was held at Vuka, a co-working space off of South First Street here in Austin. The space was absolutely gorgeous, and was lovely with all of the turquoise, silver, and white decorations that were added for the event.

The famed goodie bags were divine! They included a handbag mirror from The Aviary, ears from Crown and Glory (mine are currently serving as decoration on the wall of my dorm!), six small scented soaps from Strawberry Hedgehog, a glitter hair clip from GGs Pin-up Couture, two sodas from Zevia, a greeting card from Big Jon, and "Wordpress for Beginners" by Reeta Krishna.

At twenty years old (and nearing twenty-one at a rapid pace) it was a magical weekend where I felt affirmed in the directions I want to take my life next. While I did learn loads about blogging, I feel as though I learned so much about myself. About where I am in life right now, where I want to be, and how to get there. Where I had doubts about if I could execute the seemingly-crazy plans in my head for the next five years, I discovered belief. I met twenty-nine amazing, passionate, inspiring and supportive like-minded women, got empowered, and began to let go of my fears of failure. As I learned over the weekend, you have to be your own personal cheerleader and if you don't believe in yourself, nobody else will.

Candice, Miranda, Brit, Lisa, and Kiriko are just a few of the amazing ladies I met!
